Logo of the 13th World Festival of Youth and Students
A retro design commemorating The 13th World Festival of Youth and Students (WFYS) was held from 1–8 July 1989 in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, and was organized by the World Federation of Democratic Youth. This was the most significant event ever to be held in North Korea at the time and showcased North Korea on the international stage. About 22,000 people from 177 countries took part in the festival, which consisted of political discussions, sports competitions, and other activities. This is an iconic retro design that is sure to get the curiosity of local Koreans on your next visit with us to the DPRK.
People’s Republic of Korea Flag
The flag of the People’s Republic of Korea which was the short-lived provisional government that was organized at the time of the surrender of the Empire of Japan at the end of World War II. It was proclaimed on 12 September 1945, as Korea was being divided into two occupation zones, with the Soviet Union occupying the north, and the United States occupying the south. Based on a network of people’s committees, it presented a program of radical social change. In the south, the US military government outlawed the PRK on 12 December 1945, while in the north, the Soviet authorities co-opted the committees into the structure of the emerging Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. This design is sure to impress any history buff with interest in Korea.
Gorbachev Pizza Hut Ad
The last leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, starred in a pizza hut ad in 1997, and we have commemorated this bizarre moment with our latest design from our soviet Europe team.
The Men in No Man’s Land: A Journey Into Bir Tawil
An ancient Bedouin tribe. A secret gold mine. A hapless group of idiots. What could go wrong? Population: zero. According to the experts, the world’s last remaining terra nullius is completely unpopulated. So when a group of tourists decide to visit this empty desert wasteland nothing could have prepared them for what—or who—they would find. Nestled in the Eastern Desert between Egypt and Sudan, Bir Tawil is the product of a border dispute that goes back over a century, though in this dispute, neither side claims it. According to all available research, the territory is unpopulated. On a recent expedition, a group of adventure-seekers finds this to be far from the case. The Ababda people are a tribe of Bedouins who have populated the Eastern Desert for two thousand years, and Bir Tawil has always been their nomadic land. Today, they harvest gold there. They currently face two threats to their sovereignty: claimants with an old-fashioned view of international law, and multinational mining companies. What will they do when a group of tourists discovers their secret? The Men of No Man’s Land is the true story of an epic road trip that doesn’t quite go according to plan.
Authored by legendary pioneer Dean Karalekas with a foreword from YPT founder Gareth Johnson, this book is available in digital and paperback copies by clicking here and is sure to inspire you to start planning your next adventure with us.
