We are combining our tours of Vietnam, China, North Korea, and Russia to include the mausoleums of all the former socialist leaders – Ho Chi Minh, Mao Zedong, Kim Il Sung & Kim Jong Il, and Vladimir Ilyich Lenin! In three weeks of action-packed communist history, local rural adventure, train rides and stunning scenery, this is not just the ultimate leaders tour, but maybe YPT’s ultimate tour!
We start in Ho Chi Minh City – Saigon – where we check out the Cu Chi Tunnels and War Remnants Museum as well as life in general in this incredibly vibrant city. We then head up the coast to Nha Trang and Hue to further explore Vietnam’s ancient history, and we won’t pass the opportunity for a few drinks by the beach either!
We’ll then visit Hue where we’ll jump back in time and experience what divided Vietnam until the unification of the country in 1979. Next is Hanoi to visit the mausoleum of Uncle Ho. We then board the train over the border to China into Guangxi province, and head to Yangshuo, home of cormorant fishing and awesome karst rock scenery so beautiful its even on the back of the Chinese 20 yuan note!
We then board our one and only flight departing Guilin to Beijing to explore Tiananmen Square and visit Chairman Mao’s mausoleum. Next is boarding our 24 hour train to Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea. We’ll have time to walk down to the Yalu River dividing China and the DPRK before reembarking and continuing the train journey.
We’ll then spend the next 3 days in North Korea exploring the Grand People’s Study House, Juche tower, Kim Il Sung Square, Pyongyang Metro, Korean War Museum, the large bronze statues of the leaders and of course, the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, where President Kim Il Sung and General Kim Jong Il lay in state.
We’ll then return to Beijing on the overnight sleeper train for one night in Beijing to rest and relax before embarking on one of the most epic train journeys in the world – the Trans-Mongolian from Beijing to Moscow! This 6 day journey will take us through Mongolia and the Siberian wilderness with brief stops in towns for supplies. Once arriving in Moscow we’ll visit Lenin in Red Square, the infamous soviet statues graveyard and pop in for a visit at the Kremlin.
