On February 24th, 2022, the Russian Federation launched a large-scale military operation in Ukraine, aiming to swiftly take control of the capital, Kyiv, and replace its leadership. Referred as the “Special Military Operation” should have lasted 3 days. Expectations of a quick annexation were met with strong resistance, as local citizens actively defended their communities, symbolizing Ukraine’s resilience in the face of conflict.
YPT has worked closely with our partners in Kyiv for close to two decades and resumed group and private tours to Ukraine back in July 2023. These tours provide an opportunity to learn about the ongoing situation, the impact on affected communities, and the enduring cultural and historical identity of the Ukrainian people.
Your journey with us begins in Krakow, one of the oldest cities in Poland where you’ll meet your YPT guide and fellow travelling companions. We’ll head out to explore the beautiful old town for dinner and drinks. Although full of live and a popular tourist destination, Krakow has a much darker past.
We continue onwards to Lviv, where daily life continues amidst wartime challenges. You’ll have the opportunity to appreciate the cities architectures and discover its historical past before experience the vibrant night life before the curfew.
Your tour will focus conflicted areas within Kyiv Oblast including Borodyanka, Irpin, and Bucha which were at the forefront of the initial invasion. These are the worst affected areas close to the capital. When the opportunity arises, we can talk to the local residence who witnessed the fighting and hear their diverse viewpoints.
Ukraine remains a country in active conflict. The itinerary, including the method of transport, is subject to change. Your YPT and local guide decisions are final.
