Wednesday 26th July – Kampala (Uganda) – Kisumu (Kenya)

Morning

• Arrive at your own leisure into Kampala – the capital city of Uganda is well connected with many East African Countries, Middle East and Amsterdam. Self-transfer to our centrally located meeting, pre-tour accommodation and airport pickup can be arranged for a fee.
• Alternately: if you wish to arrive in Nairobi, we can arrange transport to join the tour in Kisumu.
• Once all group members have arrived, we’ll have a pre-tour meeting to discuss the itinerary.
• Your journey begins taking the scenic route from Kampala to Kisumu – the third largest city in Kenya. We’ll make stops along the way for photo opportunities and to stretch our legs.
• Once we reach the border, we’ll pass through immigration and onwards into Kenya.
• Along the journey we’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon

• On our arrival to Kisumu, we’ll check into our hotel. There’re options to explore the city or simply relax at the hotel.
• Later in the afternoon, we’ll head out to explore Kisumu – although smaller and less popular than Nairobi or Mombasa, the city has a relaxed atmosphere.
• We’ll head towards Lake Victoria – the worlds largest lake, we can relax at the beach. It’s a great place to grab a cold beer and people watch as the locals go about their daily business.
• We’ll have dinner at a local restaurant near the lake to enjoy evening views.
• Overnight stay in Kisumu.

Thursday 27th July – Kisumu – Masai Mara National Reserve

Morning

• Breakfast at our hotel before we set off to Masai Mara National Reserve – named after the ancestral inhabitants and to honour the Maasai people.
• Along our scenic road trip, we’ll make stops at rural roadside shops to pick up supplies and stretch our legs.
• We’ll have lunch along the journey at a local restaurant.

Afternoon

• Once we arrive to Masai Mara in the early afternoon, we’ll check into our lodge. We’ll have some time to relax and decide what activities we would like to do later.
• Masai Mara is spectacular, depending on your interests a choice of leisure activities available including bird watching, hiking or you could simple relax outdoors and embrace the natural surroundings.
• After a busy day, we’ll meet in the lodge for dinner and drinks.
• Overnight stay in the lodge.

Friday 28th July – Masai Mara National Reserve

• Early morning start, we’ll have breakfast at our lodge.
• Once we’re ready, we’ll set off to experience the Great Migration, one of the natural wonders of the world – like nature, which can be unpredictable, this time of year is our best opportunity to witness the ‘greatest show on earth’.
• We’ll drive around the part to capture the wildlife at various vantage points in our specially modified vehicle.
• A genuine tour highlight will be witnessing hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelle journeying to and from the Serengeti National Park – the sounds and vibrations of the mammals is spectacular!
• We’ll have a picnic lunch in the park.

Afternoon

• In the afternoon we’ll go around the Nature Reserve – Kenya is renowned for protecting its natural habitats, we’ll aim to see various animals including big cats (lions, cheetahs and leopards), elephants, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles and many more!
• On our return to the lodge after an amazing day, we’ll have some time to relax and freshen up.
• Dinner and drinks at the lodge, it’s also a great time to share our photos we captured during the Great Migration.
• Overnight stay in the lodge.

Saturday 29th July – Masai Mara National Reserve

Morning

• Breakfast at the lodge, we’ll have an early start to make the most of the Nature Reserve.
• We’ll start the morning with a game drive, this time focusing on lions, cheetahs, elephants and other wildlife species.
• This morning we head for another game drive.
• We’ll have a picnic lunch after we’ve seen some amazing wildlife.

Afternoon

• In the afternoon, we’ll visit a local Maasai village and have the opportunity to learn about their fascinating cultural heritage and lifestyle practices – including bushcraft skills, and warrior training.
• We’ll return to lodge; we’ll have some free time to relax and enjoy the evening.
• As it’s our last night in the lodge, we’ll have dinner followed by drinks.
• Overnight stay in the lodge.

Sunday 30th July – Masai Mara National Reserve – Narok – Nairobi

Morning

• Early morning start we’ll have breakfast at our lodge before our epic road trip ahead.
• We’ll say goodbye to the friendly staff at our lodge and prepare ourselves before we head north towards the capital – Nairobi, “the place of cool waters”, referred to by the Maasai people.
• Along the scenic journey we’ll make stop to enjoy the beautiful view points and pick up supplies from small rural village shops.
• Once we reach Narok – a small predominantly Maasai town. We’ll have the chance to explore and experience what’s life’s like here in the rural town.
• We’ll visit the interesting Narok Museum – the small museum has beautiful artifacts and images highlighting their traditional culture and lifestyle of the Maasai.
• After the museum we’ll take a break and have lunch at a local restaurant in Narok.

Afternoon

• In the afternoon, before we depart, we’ll explore a village close nearby – a nice touch before we enter the urban jungle of Nairobi.
• Along the journey we’ll drive through the Great Rift Valle – the natural geological features which were caused by a separation of the earths tectonic plate.
• Our journey will have us passing through the highlands of Kenya, we’ll makes stops along the way to capture the stunning scenery.
• On our arrival to Nairobi, we’ll check into our hotel, there’s time to relax before we head out.
• We’ll have dinner at a local restaurant in Nairobi.
• Overnight stay in Nairobi.

Monday 31st July – Nairobi

Morning

• Breakfast at the hotel before we explore the capital – Nairobi, often referred to as “The Green City in the Sun”.
• We have a genuine tour highlight, as we’ll visit Kibera – the largest urban slum in Africa compact and coexisting within a thriving bustling community consisting with over a million residents. It’s important to see and experience how the other side live within this amazing city – our tour will help us understand the living conditions and daily struggles of this fantastic community.
• After learning much about the inhabitants of Kibera we’ll head to our next destination, along the way we’ll stop at a local restaurant for lunch and to relax.

Afternoon

• After lunch we’ll take a scenic route along the Hills of Limuru until we reach Kiambethu Farm – peaceful and beautiful surrounded by a rich natural environment. Historically famous, Kiambethu farm was pivotal in the production and selling tea commercially in Kenya in 1910.
• We’ll explore and learn about the history of the Farm and it’s significant for the British Empires commercial interests.
• Once we’re ready we’ll head back to Nairobi, along the way we’ll visit a local art gallery.
• Dinner in Nairobi – our final night together so we’ll head to a nice local restaurant followed by some drinks.
• Overnight stay in Nairobi.

Tuesday 1st August – Nairobi

• Breakfast at the hotel.
• End of the tour depart at your own convenience. YPT can arrange additional nights in Nairobi and airport drop off for a fee, we are more than happy to provide advice for ongoing flights.
