Tanzania Summer Safari Tour
Not quite what you’d expect from a YPT tour but all our neighboring interests have led us to Tanzania. Join us on our tour as we begin in the town of Arusha, most famous in Africa for Mt. Kilimanjaro – Africa’s highest mountain and the highest single free-standing mountain in the world at 5,895 meters.
We’ll board our 4x4s with our local expert guides in both knowledge and weaponry (for protection) and head through the Arusha National Park popular for spotting inquisitive blue monkeys and acrobatic black and white Colobus monkeys. We’ll then make our way to Ngurdoto Crater where we’ll encounter elephants, buffalos, zebras, and giraffes roaming in the wild.
One of the major highlights of our tour will be exploring Serengeti National Park – simply known as Africa’s greatest national park with the amount of different wildlife and species concentrated in this area. We’ll have the chance to meet the traditional Maasai community and camp overnight.
We’ll then continue our way to Ngorongoro Crater – the world’s largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera, and one of the last remaining homes of the illusive and highly endangered Black Rhino.
A trip to Tanzania is not complete without visiting Mt. Kilimanjaro where we’ll make our way up to the first leg of the route offering spectacular views. The tour will end in Dar es Salaam – meaning House of Peace in Arabic which is the largest city and former capital of Tanzania.

Thursday 1st June – Arusha
- Arrive at your convenience into Arusha – a small town located near Mt. Kilimanjaro with regular flights from the Netherlands and east Africa.
- Pick up at Kilimanjaro Airport and transfer to Arusha town to check into Mvuli hotel. Feel free to take an early dip in the pool to refresh after your flight.
- For those who arrive early our YPT guide will guide you to through the Masaai Market and the centre point of the Earth, directly halfway between Cape Town and Cairo.
- Pre-tour meeting will be held at the lobby of the hotel at 6:00pm to discuss tour itinerary and to meet your fellow travellers and YPT guide.
- Dinner in town to explore the nightlife of Arusha
- Overnight at Mvuli hotel
Friday 2nd June – Arusha National Park Morning
- Breakfast at hotel and board our 4×4 and visit a nearby public school to meet students and teacher for an impromptu class and English language exchange.
- Continue onwards to Arusha National Park begin our safari walk as we’re guided by knowledgeable and experienced armed rangers into the shadowy Montane Forest. This area is inhabited by inquisitive blue monkeys and acrobatic black and white Colobus monkeys which is one of the very few places on the Northern Safari Circuit for them to be easily spotted.
Afternoon
- Picnic lunch and board our jeeps to adventure further deeper towards the spectacular Ngurdoto Crater where we may spot elephants, buffalos, zebras, giraffes and more.
- Return back to Arusha for dinner, drinks and overnight at Mvuli hotel.
Saturday 3rd June – Serengeti National Park Morning
- Breakfast at hotel and begin our journey to through the Great Rift Valley which provides incredible backdrops until we reach Serengeti National Park – awarded year after year as Africa’s top National Park, the sheer concentration of wildlife here is fascinating.
- On our way we’ll stop to meet with a traditional Maasai community where you can learn about their ancient traditions and culture, if you’re game enough it’s a good chance to learn their Masaai dance style.
Afternoon
- Picnic lunch and continue encountering African wildlife as close as we can on the rolling plains of Serengeti..
- Set up camp and tuck into dinner inside the bush restaurant before overnighting beneath a comfy canvas just outside of the National Park Borders.
Sunday 4th June – Serengeti National Park
- Breakfast at camp and begin our dedicated day to exploring Africa’s greatest national park giving you the unique opportunity to get as close as possible with the wildlife that roams the plains. Lunch will be prepared for us whilst we’re out and about. Dinner and drinks back at Serengeti Ikoma Camp
Monday 5th June – Ngorongoro Crater Morning
- Breakfast at camp and begin making our way to Ngorongoro Crater – the world’s largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera, and one of the last remaining homes of the illusive and highly endangered Black Rhino. The journey down into the crater is unique within itself and providing incredible views surrounding us whilst at the peak.
Afternoon
- Picnic lunch at the crater floor.
- Return to Arusha town and check back into Mvuli hotel for a swim at the pool.
- Dinner out in town and enjoy the nightlife
- Overnight at Mvuli hotel
Tuesday 6th June – Kilimanjaro National Park Morning
- Breakfast at hotel and begin making our way to the awe-inspiring Mount Kilimanjaro.
- We will make our way by 4×4 through rainforests up to the first leg of the famed Marangu route passing birdlife, Blue Monkeys and Colobus Monkeys..
Afternoon
- Lunch by the mountain as we taken in the incredible views surrounding us mostly over Taveta and Mawenzi Peak.
- Return back to Arusha town for dinner, drinks and overnight.
Wednesday 7th June –Arusha – Dar Es Salaam Morning
- Breakfast at hotel and begin our journey via coach to Dar es Salaam – the largest city and former capital of Tanzania located on the other side of the country. We’ll have time to stock up on drinks and snacks for the journey.
Afternoon
- Drop off at our hotel in Dar es Salaam, check in, freshen up, hit the town for our farewell dinner and drinks.
- Overnight at Azania hotel
Thursday 8th June – Dar Es Salaam Morning
- Breakfast at hotel and tour concludes. YPT can arrange your airport drop-off according to your flight details – YPT is also able to arrange post-tour accommodation or advice for flights.
- For those flying out later that day we recommend visiting the following sights:
- Askari Monument – dedicated to the African soldiers (askari) who fought in the British campaign against the German Army in East Africa in World War I.
- Visit Karimjee Hall – the former parliamentary building
- Or take a break and stop off on any of the nearest beaches for dip.
- For those apart of our Zanzibar tour you will continue by ferry to Zanzibar.
