All aboard! Embark with YPT on an extraordinary trip to Sri Lanka in July 2026. On our meticulously designed itinerary, you will experience its cultural treasures, scenic wonders and gastronomic delights.
Your adventure will begin in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, where you’ll visit the main sights and the markets for a first taste of the diverse street-food offerings of the country.
You’ll then take your first train to head to the Cultural Triangle, where you’ll visit the archaeological remains of bygone eras, from the beginning of the Sinhalese monarchy in the 6th century B.C. until the arrival of Europeans in the 16th century. You’ll explore the ruins of Polonnaruwa, hike up the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO site perched atop a monolithic rock, and be rewarded with incredible panoramic vistas.
The rhythmic clatter of train wheels will accompany you along the trip, as you traverse through the country on some of the world’s most scenic rail routes. Or even THE most scenic route, as the journey from Kandy to Ella is often referred. It passes through lush tea plantations dotted by people in saris, before ascending toward the Ella mountains, close to the postcard-perfect Nine Arch Bridge.
Sri Lanka’s magic extends beyond its landscapes and archaeological treasures, so this will also be a culinary journey, in which you’ll discover the island’s unique blend of spices and flavours with our local insiders and even learn the secrets of traditional dishes from locals.
