Join our tour group to the once notoriously hard to access Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which has only recently opened up to tourism and offers a new tourist visa programme for 51 nationalities.
Our tour begins in the capital city, Riyadh, where you’ll explore the modern centre of Saudi Arabia as well as its ancient history in and around, from the ancient capital quarter of Al Turaif where the Saudi Royal family are from, to the very top of Kingdom Tower towering 300 metres (984 feet) over the city. In the afternoon, you’ll be taken to the very Edge of the World at Jebel Fihrayn. It offers spectacular views from the high cliffs that appears to be a sudden drop off the planet.
From Riyadh, we’ll take our private transport to Buraidah, the capital of the Al-Qassim region located in the middle of the Arabian desert. Known to the locals as the “alimental basket” of the country for its agricultural assets, this area is most renowned to the outside world as the most conservative part of the entire Kingdom. On the way, we’ll stopping to explore the hidden oasis of Ushaiger.
Saudi Arabia does not lack camels, and whilst in Qassim you’ll have the opportunity to visit the largest camel market in the world. This is also one of the most chaotic scenes we’ve experienced in the country, giving you a truly unique Saudi experience.
You’ll continue your adventure to ancient city of Haʼil. Its surrounding landscapes inspired the One Thousand and One Nights tales and will make you feel like you truly are in the heart of the Arabian peninsulta. We’ll explore what remains of A’arif Fort and visit Jubbah, a worlwide famous site that contains some of the oldest and most numerous and outstanding carvings of the Arabian Peninsula.
We’ll then arrive at the highlight of this entire tour, Al’Ula, which is home to Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, deep within the desert. We’ll drink tea and soak in the atmosphere that surrounds Elephant Rock, a giant monolithic red sandstone carved by natural forces after millions of years. You’ll also explore the ancient tombs that remain as the legacy of 7,000 years of human civilisation. This area remains largely off the global tourism radar for now – imagine Petra, in Jordan, only without the crowds of tourists!
Next you’ll visit the second holiest city in Islam, Medina, walking the most famous street connecting the Holy Mosque to Qiba Mosque, and board Saudi’s fast railway to Jeddah. Here you’ll visit the stunning labyrinth of Al Balad, the old town, with its majestic coral houses, old souqs and famous corniche. The trip concludes in Jeddah with the option of going snorkelling in the Red Sea!
After opening to the world in 2019, Saudi Arabia is evolving incredibly fast, both in terms of societal changes and infrastructure. This is now the last time to see the country as you imagine it – and as it was for many moons – before it turns into a truly new experience. Prepare to have your misconceptions shattered and your mind blown as you hear about the kingdom’s “Gigaprojects” that will reshape it for decades to come.
Make this trip the ultimate Middle East experience and join us on our previous tour in Kuwait, and onwards to Syria!
