Join YPT for this foray into the wildest side of South East Asia’s island countries! In this trip, we’ll take you through 4 countries. While they are often mentionned by backpackers (well, except East Timor), we show to you these countries in a very different light!
We start this trip in Kuching, Malaysian Borneo where we’ll charter boats to visit the Tanjung Datu National Park, on the tip of the Sarawak region. It is one of Malaysia’s most beautiful park, where lush dipterocarp forest come to meet the pristine waters and coral reef. As one of the least accessible parks of Malaysia, it will truly be ours to enjoy. It features an incredible biodiversity.
The tour also comes with a homestay amongst the Bidayuh community, where people still live in longhouses. That evening, we can see the very special frogs of Kubah National Park. From there, we will visit the Orang Utan preservation center, where we can not only meet the hairy guys but also learn more about the efforts that are made to preserve the species.
A tour of Borneo wouldn’t be complete without stopping by the Bako National Park, the oldest National Park in Sarawak and home to the proboscis monkeys. These monkeys, the weirdest looking ones if you ask us, can only be found here in Borneo.
We then spend a day in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s metropolis, taking in all the best sites and gorging on its wild culinary culture. It is with our belly full that we fly to Bali, Indonesia and the party central of the islands. From there, we fly to West Timor to take part in YPT’s first overland crossing into East Timor. In East Timor, we will visit some of the least visited parts of the least visited country of SEA as well as Dili’s classics.
We then head off to San Fernando on Easter Friday to watch people literally nail themselves to crosses, before a wild night out and bar crawl in city of sin Angeles. Following this we take things a little more cultural with a trip to summer capital Baguio, and the hanging coffins of Sagada. We then take things a bit more YPT with a trip to the home of Ferdinand and Emelda Marcos, Batac, before a night partying YPT style with a beach BBQ.
We finish the trip back in Manila with a controversial day betting on cock fighting before a last night blowout of top clubs and midget boxing. This is without doubt one of our most exciting tours of the year.
