For those who want to explore South East Asia more deeply, Laos cannot be missed! Starting off with a complete nature immersion and the unique character of Luang Prabang – a UNESCO World Heritage City – you will be left in awe already. It is an outstanding example of the fusion of traditional architecture and Lao urban structures with those built by the European colonial authorities in the 19th and 20th centuries.
During the trip, you’ll see its unique, remarkably well-preserved townscape but also learn about the Indochina war. You’ll also rise with the monks for a glimpse of the alms-giving ceremony, visit enchanting temple, meet war veterans and their families, lose yourself in the electrifying night market and dedicate some time to nature, chasing cascading waters at Kuang Si Falls. You will ride with the boat along the river and have a local BBQ and beer feast at the less-visited side just across.
After an enchanting weekend with a variety of experiences, we venture via train to Vientiane and onwards to one of the “most secret places on Earth”, the former airbase of Long Tieng and the nearby plain of jars, deep in the mountains of Laos. This CIA backed-up place was one of the centres of operations during the Indochina war and off-limits for visitors until recently. Be among the first to explore it! Spend the whole day exploring the area including archaeological sites, skyline ridge, the airstrip, and buildings that are leftovers from the Vietnam war era before yet another epic BBQ and beer on the hill overlooking the airstrip.
Our local contacts, alternative sites, and close relationships with war veterans from all sides will allow you to enter a part of SEA in a way that most people can´t. It will extend your view of this multi-faceted region and turn your trip into a true YPT experience.
