Join YPT on our inaugural Papua Overland Tour, starting in Jayapura, the capital of Indonesia’s West Papua province before we journey overland to Vanimo, Papua New Guinea. This route takes us through one of the country’s most stunning and least-explored regions, where you’ll discover pristine beaches, secluded islands, and the genuine warmth and hospitality of the local communities.
As the roads beyond this point don’t entirely exist for overland travel, we’ll take a short flight to Wewak – an underrated gem with untouched coastline and deep cultural roots. Here, you’ll encounter the fascinating tribes who participate in the renowned Sepik Crocodile Festival.
From there, we head to Port Moresby to dive headfirst into the monumental 50th anniversary celebrations of Papua New Guinea’s independence. The festivities kick off with the adrenaline-charged PNG National Rugby League Grand Final 0 an event that grips the entire nation, Followed by the vibrant 1000 Tribes Festival. Comparable in energy and spectacle to Mount Hagen and Goroka, this festival offers unforgettable photo opportunities and an unparalleled immersion into the heart of PNG’s tribal culture.
The tour concludes with the vibrant National Day celebrations- an unforgettable finale that seamlessly leads into our Goroka Festival Tour for those continuing the adventure.
As this is our inaugural run of the tour, it’s being offered in a research-style format. Raw, real, and as-is. While things may not always go exactly to plan, that unpredictability is part of the journey. To keep the experience intimate and flexible, participation is limited to just eight guests.
