Experience your Christmas in the cradle of civilizations with YPT’s unforgettable tour to Iraq! While Iraq might not be the first destination that comes to mind for Christmas celebrations, you’ll be amazed by the vibrant and festive atmosphere during this special time of year.
Your tour commences in Baghdad, Iraq’s capital and cultural hub. You’ll experience an in-depth tour of the city which has seen immense changes over history and in recent times. You will visit the must-see sights of the capital as well as being introduced into the world of Mesopotamia.
Here you’ll hear first hand about Iraq’s ancient history by visiting the infamous Iraq Museum which contains important artifacts from many caliphates and empires that ruled over modern day Iraq’s territory – however the museum was looted in 2003 and not all artifacts have been returned.
You’ll also visit Tahir Square (known as liberation Square), Firdos Square (where Saddam’s statue was toppled in 2003) and the iconic Victory Arch, made by Saadam Hussein to commemorate the victims in the Iran-Iraq War.
On Christmas day we’ll head north, visiting the infamous ancient site of the Agargouf Ziggurat and continue onwards to Hatra – one of the most well preserved archaeological sites in Iraq!W e’ll finish the day in Mosul – one of the most injured cities during the Iraq Civil War and the birthplace of the ISIS caliphate.
The tour continues to Bakhdida, a predominantly Assyrian town to visit the Church and explore their museum and concludes in Erbil located in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
For those wanting to make the most of their time in Iraq and Kurdistan you can continue your tour with us on our Iraqi Kurdistan New Year tour! Don’t miss your chance to join us for an extraordinary journey filled with history, tradition, and festive cheer!
