Poland Tours with YPT

Poland, which literally means “land of fields”, is home to some of Eastern Europe’s most beautiful cities, offers a variety of delicious food, and even preserves the last remaining primeval forest in lowland Europe.

With its troubled position between Germany and Russia, which led to its invasion during WWII, the establishment of concentration camps by Nazis, and then the creation of the Soviet-aligned Polish People’s Republic from 1945 to 1989, it offers a dark and complicated side too, making it a place you might call a “YPT Destination”. Poland is a fascinating country, which is nowadays still struggling to find its place between the East and West and a determined future path.

Group Tours to Poland

YPT do not currently run group tours specifically to Poland, but we’re always expanding our scope of destinations so check this page and our social media accounts regularly to get all the news. Our Ukraine tours leave from Kraków, for a small glimpse at the country’s arguably most beautiful city.

Independent Tours to Poland

YPT can arrange tours deep into the country, leveraging on its network of local partners, or link it with tours to Belarus, Kaliningrad, Ukraine, the Baltics, and beyond.

Below is an example Poland tour for a post-WWII and post-soviet city experience. This can be extended or combined with other activities to create independent tours.

Example of a 5-day Poland Post-WWII and Post-Soviet Itinerary

Day 1 – Warsaw

  • Arrival in Warsaw at your own convenience and transfer to our centrally located hotel.
  • Meet at 6pm in the hotel lobby for a pre-tour meeting with your guides before going out for dinner and drinks.
  • Overnight in Warsaw.

Day 2 – Warsaw

  • After breakfast we Explore the meticulously reconstructed Old Town on a walking tour, see the Royal Castle, St John’s Cathedral and the Old Town Market Square.

  • Traditional and savory lunch.
  • In the afternoon we visit the Warsaw uprising museum, dedicated to the fight of the Polish “Home Army” for the country’s independence from German occupation on August 1st 1944. Some of the heaviest fighting occurred here.

  • Travel with private bus to Krakow, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4- Krakow

Day 5 – Birkenau/Auschwitz

  • Visit to the infamous German Concentration and Extermination Camps of Auschwitz and Auschwitz II – Birkenau. We will visit the abandoned barracks, pass through the iconic gate, see the gas chambers and crematoria, and honor the memory of a past never to be repeated. We want to point out clearly that the atrocities committed against numerous parts of the population in this country are a sensitive topic and therefore ask all our group participants to be always respectful and mindful.
  • Late lunch with Polish cuisine.
  • Visit to the radio station “Sender Gleiwitz” where the Nazis faked a false-flag Polish attack in 1939 to justify their invasion of Poland and thus initiating WWII.
  • Dinner and overnight in Krakow.

From here you can continue for the extended WWII-tour in Poland, join one of our other tours in Eastern Europe like Kaliningrad, Ukraine or the Baltic countries or venture further on by yourself.

Frequently asked Questions about travel to Poland

To travel to Poland as a Non-EU citizen, for a short trip lasting fewer than 90 days, you will need a Poland Schengen Visa, as the country is part of the Schengen Area of European countries that have abolished border controls between each other.
Poland is a stable country and safe place to visit. There are certain scams and petty theft to be aware of within it, but no reason to be hesitant to travel there. YPT can advise on safety in the country.
Poland, as many central-eastern European countries has a variety of savory dishes with meat and potatoes at its root, but you will be surprised by the variety of even more traditional vegetarian dishes to be found, as well as typical “Western” food with vegetarian options.
Travelers can easily purchase SIM cards upon arrival or from any mobile store with just a valid ID. Data plans are very affordable and coverage is extensive. It is also possible to get an e-SIM in Poland. If you’re a EU citizen, your data plan should cover Poland without additional fees.
Although the local currency in Poland is the złoty, you may find stores, restaurants and hotels in major cities or around the borders that will also accept euro payments. 1€ is typically between 4-5 Złoty.
We do strongly recommend that travellers to all our destinations have travel insurance. Accidents or medical conditions can happen anywhere and it’s best to be prepared. A proper travel insurance should include coverage for (medical) evacuation/repatriation costs by helicopter, plane or ship.

You should always do your own research about insurance, but we at YPT use IATI. Using our referral link below will give you a 5% discount off their usual price:

Poland might be an easy country to visit on the surface, but seeing the real side of it and getting off the beaten path is less easy to do. YPT has been offering tours to the least-visited part of Eastern Europe for more than 15 years and are experts in the country through our own trial and error. That’s why we can show you the unseen and underground parts of it, mixed with a deep knowledge of its past and relations to its neighbouring countries.
