International Tours
Welcome to the international tours page from Young Pioneer Tours. Our international group tours cover every continent on the planet, with our dual ethos of “destinations your mother would rather you stay away from” and “group tours for people who hate group tours” ringing true. Our international tours are led by one of our expert guides and most groups are capped at 10 – 20 people depending on the tour destination.

The vastest region YPT operates in! We have all the experience to bring you to Eritrea, the ‘North Korea of Africa’, or the unrecognised country of Somaliland, for their national day celebrations to experience all the sights and sounds of the Horn of Africa. In the North, we’ll have you exploring the Casbah of Algeria or riding the Iron Ore Train of Mauritania From the Eastern coast, we take you to Mali, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin and Angola!
Fertile ground of revolutions right in the backyard of the United States, our offer in Latin America is constantly expanding. Cuba is one of our favourite destinations, If you’ve seen a military parade or mass dance in North Korea, or national day parades in Eritrea or Turkmenistan, there’s still nothing quite like May Day celebrations in Cuba. In Colombia, we retrace the history of the FARC and the Narcos. In Ecuador, we take you into the Amazon. See the amazing wildlife of Galapagos and wonder in front of the voodoo rituals of Haiti!
Central Asia offers a stunning range of options in terms of culture and scenery. One of the most closed countries in the world, with even fewer tourists every year than North Korea, Turkmenistan is a notoriously difficult country to visit, and therefore one of the most important for YPT! From our office in Almaty, we also organize tours through the archaeological treasures of Uzbekistan and the mountains and lakes of Kyrgyzstan, and hey, why not try to see a rocket launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. One also not very well kept secret is that there are certain other locations we travel to in Central Asia, but you’ll need to send us an email to find out!
Chernobyl was one of the first destinations that YPT made regular trips to and it has since become a mainstay of our international itineraries. What’s more YPT has pioneered travel to the various unrecognised countries of the post-Soviet world, especially Transnistria in Moldova. We also offer week-long tours of Belarus and Georgia and on our now infamous annual Eurasian Adventure tour you can even travel through every single country of the former communist Eastern Bloc and Yugoslavia!
The Middle East is one of the most rewarding regions to explore and we offer tours to the whole peninsula! Let us take you to both Southern Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan, the cradle of civilisation. Iran has been one of our regular fixtures, with its dazzling shrines and friendliest locals. Visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, just recently opened to tourist! Last but not least, follow us to the other-worldish island of Socotra!
South East Asia is certainly seeing its fair share of tourists, but that doesn’t mean it has no wild and unexplored corners left! It turns out we specialise in them! Follow us on a boat to the marshes of Bangladesh. Climb up the secret kingdom of Bhutan. Spectate live crucifixions in the Philippines and discover the secretive nation of East Timor before taking in amazing tribal festivals in Papua New Guinea!
Being based in China for so long, YPT have developed an ever-greater knowledge of the country and a passion for the vast array of destinations here. Whether you want to travel to Xinjiang or Tibet, do a road trip through the China-North Korea borderlands, see the Communist history in Yan’an, go urban exploring in Ordos-Kangbashi ghost city or just a short tour in Xi’an or Beijing, our Red China tours offer you a perfect combination with a DPRK tour or as an adventure all of itself.
When it comes to Soviet Europe Tours, YPT are the industry standard! After initially starting with North Korea, we quickly expanded to Soviet Tours and now offer everything from Group Tours to Chernobyl, unrecognised countries, such as Transnistria, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, to our signature Soviet Group Trip, the Eurasian Adventure Tour.
When you choose a holiday destination, it’s always cool to choose an obscure country to see your mates’ reactions when you tell them. But even better, is going adventuring in a place that doesn’t officially even exist! We were the first-ever international tour company to give you the opportunity to travel to some of the world’s unrecognised countries, including South Ossetia, Transnistria, Abkhazia, Nagorno-Karabakh and Somaliland. These places are on the forefront of international travel and will give you an opportunity to become a true pioneer.
YPT continually expands our list of worldwide destinations, taking you to the least travelled and wildest places there are. Each year we strive to add more adventurous destinations around the globe, running research trips to find out the best way to offer you the chance to visit the mysterious corners of the world still untouched by regular tourism. Nowhere is too far for us, taking you from the Least Visited Countries in the World, in the Pacific as well as on expeditions to the Arctic, Antarctica and soviet ruins of Svalbard.
