It might not be the cheapest or the easiest thing in the world, but flying with Libya Wings is something Young Pioneer Tours arrange as part of our Libya tours package, and it’s actually a pretty decent experience, especially for an hour-long journey.
Let’s face it: flying to Libya isn’t exactly like hopping on a flight to London, but for the most part, it’s smooth sailing. There are a few quirks along the way, though, and if you’re new to this part of the world, expect some interesting experiences at the airports.

The Airport in Tunis: A Bit of a Nightmare When Busy
First things first: if you’re flying with Libya Wings, you’re most likely going to transit through Tunis-Carthage International Airport (TUN). And if you’re unlucky enough to land there at peak times, well… let’s just say you’re in for a bit of a headache. The airport is a bit of a maze when it’s packed, with long lines for check-in, customs, and security.
The process can feel a bit chaotic, especially during rush hours or in the busy summer months. But on the plus side, they do have a lounge and a smoking room for departures, which is something you might appreciate if you’re stuck waiting around for a while. It’s not glamorous, but it’s definitely a better option than standing in the crowds. Oh and your last chance for booze (probably).

The Airport in Tripoli: Don’t Expect Much
Now, if you think the airport in Tunis was a bit rough around the edges, wait until you get to Tripoli’s Mitiga International Airport. To put it bluntly, there’s not much here. It’s basic. The departure terminal has a small shop and a cafe, which were both just starting to open as we were leaving. So if you’re in need of a snack or a last-minute souvenir, you’ll be able to grab something, but don’t expect much variety or quality. And yes they have a smoking room, after all this is Libya…
If you’re flying with Libya Wings, you won’t find much in the way of frills at Tripoli’s airport. It’s one of those places where the focus is on getting you through the process without much fuss—just be ready for the lack of creature comforts. On the flip side, the security and check-in process is usually pretty efficient, with minimal wait if you have come in with YPT.

Arrivals: Waiting for the eVisa Check
Once you arrive in Tripoli, you’ll be in for a bit of a wait while your eVisa is checked at the arrivals desk. This is pretty standard, but it can take time, especially if you’re not the only one in line. The good news? YPT tends to smooth over these bumps pretty quickly.
We take care of all the visa stuff beforehand, so your eVisa is usually sorted well in advance, but if there’s any hold-up, we make sure you’re not left hanging (or alone).
Flight Reliability: A Bit of a Mixed Bag
Generally speaking, Libya Wings is a reliable airline, especially if you’re flying to Libya on one of our tours. The flights are pretty consistent, and you can expect them to be on time… most of the time. However, don’t be surprised if you experience a delay here and there.
We’ve seen delays as long as 10 hours in the past, which is definitely not something you want to deal with when you’re stuck in either Tunis or Tripoli. Neither airport is exactly set up to handle long delays with any grace. Tunis might have the lounge, but once your flight is delayed, you’ll be wishing you could be anywhere else. Tripoli, on the other hand, has even less to offer, making long delays a particularly unpleasant experience.

The Verdict on Flying with Libya Wings
So, what’s it really like to fly with Libya Wings? Well, it’s not perfect, but it gets you where you need to go. If you’re traveling as part of a YPT tour, we’ll make sure everything is handled smoothly.
And despite being just a one hour journey they even serve a small meal, something you rarely get these days, even on Fiji Airways.
