After months of planning, the new Nauru football shirt – sponsored by Young Pioneer Tours – is now available for purchase in home, away, goalkeeper and special edition designs.
The overall project, which was started in January of this year, aims to see Nauru finally compete at soccer/football and has seen the hiring of ex-Premier League player Dave Kitson as manager.
What is the YPT connection to Nauru?
YPT have run tours to Nauru for many years, which has seen us get much more involved within the country. This led to the football project being started by YPT’s CEO Gareth Johnson and regional football expert Paul Watson.
And so far, so good, with this getting lots of media attention, as well as hiring top staff. The end game for this is to set up a national team for Nauru, as well as generally help life and health on the island nation.
This is perhaps best put across by Dave Kitson who told us: “We’re incredibly excited to be helping the island of Nauru become healthier and fitter through playing football. The brand-new kit has been developed in collaboration with the native islanders and its sales will go directly towards the continued development of football in Nauru.”
Why and where to get the Nauru football shirt?
The main reason to buy one is that all of the proceeds go towards supporting football in Nauru, but as a second bonus you also get to have a super cool shirt with the YPT logo on the back.
And if you really want to be fancy, there are even 100 collectors’ editions available, although most have already been sold. These get you not just your name and number on them, but also on the Nauru Soccer hall of fame.
