From November 11th 2024, Vietnam is simplifying its immigration rules and introducing a new, user-friendly e-Visa scheme. This scheme has been designed to allow easier access for international tourists to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and to boost tourist numbers.
This enhanced platform, accessible at evisa.gov.vn, promises a more efficient application process, as well as extended stay options and convenient entry through 42 designated airports, seaports, and land checkpoints.
As before, citizens of all countries are eligible to apply for an e-visa. However, if you’re lucky to be from a country with visa-free entry into Vietnam, you may not need one at all.

Simplifying Travel: The New e-Visa Platform
Since February 2017, Vietnam’s electronic visa (system has provided eligible international visitors with an easier alternative to traditional visa applications.
Vietnam’s Immigration Department has tailored the new platform to simplify the e-visa process. Applicants will upload a passport photo and a scanned image of their passport’s information page, allowing the system to autofill portions of the form by matching details with passport data. This automated approach aims to reduce errors and speed up processing time.
New Extended Stay and Multiple Entry Options
One of the most notable changes for applicants is the extended duration of stay. With the updated e-Visa policy, travellers can now stay for up to 90 days, a significant improvement from the previous 30-day limit. The new options include:
- Single-entry visa ($25): Valid for one-time entry during its active period.
- Multiple-entry visa ($50): Permits multiple entries within the validity timeframe – perfect for those with flexible travel plans or who want to visit neighbouring countries.
Additional Entry Points for Easier Travel
The upgraded e-Visa now grants entry through 42 authorized points, allowing travellers a range of convenient options based on their travel plans.
Entry points include major international airports, seaports, and overland checkpoints from all neighbouring countries.
Major Airports Include
- Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi)
- Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Ho Chi Minh City)
- Da Nang International Airport
- Phu Quoc International Airport
Key Seaports Include
- Cam Pha Port
- Da Nang Port
- Ho Chi Minh City Port
- Nha Trang Port
Popular Land Crossings Include
- Huu Nghi (China border)
- Moc Bai (Cambodia border)
- Mong Cai (China border)
This list, which is not exhaustive, delivers an extensive range of entry points. Travellers are therefore offered the flexibility of arriving from multiple destinations and by various routes.

In addition to the e-visa, Vietnam provides visa-free entry for citizens of 27 countries, allowing stays of 14 to 90 days.
