YPT Tours to Slovakia

Join YPT on one of our Slovakia tours. Slovakia stands for the ‘land of the Slavs’, which is an ethnic group commonly situated in the large geographical area of Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe. The Slavic people and their descendants share the common base of Slavic languages, and their cultural influence can be detected in many areas of the modern world.

Slovakia itself is known for unique medieval castles, caves, hot springs, folk architecture, the European Dead Sea, a famous Celtic town, wildlife and much more.

It also has an incredibly interesting history. Pursuing their aim of independence from Czecho-Slovakia, the country joined Nazi-Germany in 1939, formed the Slovak republic, signed the Tripartite Pact in 1940 and supported the axis throughout WWII. With support from the Soviets, a popular uprising happened in 1944. Plans were already schemed by the Slavik Communists to incorporate the country to the Soviet Union, but final liberation from Nazi-Germany did not happen until May 1945.

After 1948 and tubulous political times in hindsight of WWII and the emerging cold war, the country was back as Czechoslovakia and belonged to the Communist Party apparatus. Decades of Communism and Stalinism followed, deeply influencing the shape of the country and its society to this day.

Nowadays, people can visit an independent Slovakia yet again, after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the peaceful “divorce” with Czech Republic in 1993. With a complex history, which is representative for many former Soviet states in this region, Slovakia offers an incredible number of multi-layered facets to explore. Rustic charm, savoury food, and good beer come included with our Slovakia tours packages!

Group Tours to Slovakia

YPT do not currently run group tours specifically to Slovakia. However, we recommend extending our Poland tours with a visit to Slovakia, just from the neighbouring Krakow, for an amazing Soviet experience. We also organize trips to Ukraine and in Romania.

To get into the mood we will board one of the rustic trains from Bratislava to the deeper country. Frequently asked Questions about travel to Slovakia

Slovakia is a stable country and safe place to visit. There are certain scams and petty theft to be aware of within it, but no reason to be hesitant to travel there. YPT can advise on safety in the country.
Slovakia, as many central-eastern European countries has a variety of savoury dishes with meat and potatoes at its root, but you will be surprised by the variety of even more traditional vegetarian dishes to be found, as well as typical “Western” food with vegetarian options. Of course, the bigger the city, the easier it is to get vegan food.

We do strongly recommend that travellers to all our destinations have travel insurance. Accidents or medical conditions can happen anywhere and it’s best to be prepared. A proper travel insurance should include coverage for (medical) evacuation/repatriation costs by helicopter, plane or ship.

You should always do your own research about insurance, but we at YPT use IATI. Using our referral link below will give you a 5% discount off their usual price: https://www.iatitravelinsurance.com/en/?r=23612524710385
Slovakia might be a comparably easy country to visit on the surface, but seeing the real side of it and getting off the beaten path is less easy to do. YPT has been offering tours to the least-visited part of Eastern Europe for more than 15 years and are experts in the country through our own trial and error. That’s why we can show you the unseen and underground parts of it, mixed with a deep knowledge of its past and relations to its neighbouring countries.
