Afghanistan: Journey Through History and Beauty

by Andy Khong

Nestled at the crossroads of Central and South Asia, Afghanistan is a nation whose history spans epochs, its allure forged by a mosaic of cultures. Going there, you will embark on a voyage through its past, exploring its enchanting tourist destinations, all while celebrating the vibrant narrative that makes Afghanistan an alluring destination of discovery.

Afghanistan’s historical fabric is woven with threads that stretch back to antiquity. Once part of the Persian Empire, its significance grew as it absorbed the influences of Greeks, Mauryans, and Kushans. The 7th-century advent of Islam transformed its architecture, arts, and ethos. Amid the 19th-century geopolitical chessboard, Afghanistan stood resilient, fiercely guarding its sovereignty.

Afghanistan’s treasures are as diverse as its history, showcasing a harmony of culture and nature. Behold these gems that beckon explorers:

  • Bamyan Valley: Framed by rugged mountains, the valley’s echoes whisper tales of the Bamyan Buddhas. Once carved into the cliffs, they symbolized harmony between cultures. Now, the caves are sanctuaries of reflection, inviting visitors to tread gently on the tapestry of time. Not far from the Bamyan Buddhas is Shahr-E-Golgola also known as the ‘City of Screams’. Chinggis (Genghis) Khan besieged and destroyed this city in 1221 because the people resisted and killed his grandson. From this city, you could hike up to the remains of Shah-e Zohak, the red fort.
