Join us in Turkmenistan on our New Year tour as you ring in the new year sipping champagne with fireworks as the backdrop next to the nation’s iconic Davaza Crater, or most famously known as the “Gates of Hell”.
Your journey with us starts in the “White Marble City” of Ashgabat; you’ll be blinded by the white & gold monuments and buildings of the new city. We’ve packed in all the must-sees and must-dos of the capital which includes visiting the largest structure in the shape of a horse (Olympic Horse Stadium), riding the world’s largest indoor Ferris Wheel, and seeing a memorial dedicated to the proud fact that Turkmenistan is the only completely neutral country according to the UN Arch of Neutrality.
As part of your visit to Turkmenistan we’ll stop by an underground thermal cave lake, and meet the villagers of Nokhur – situated in the Kopet Dag mountains. Unlike the rest of Turkmenistan, even during the Soviet Union and the era of Turkmenbashy, this village were largely left alone and as such live a much more traditional lifestyle than most Turkmens.
We’ll then head off-road into the Karakum desert to the Gates of Hell, a spectacular 70-metre-wide crater resulting from a failed Soviet gas exploration that has been on fire since 1971. Here you will be a part of the most unique and secretive New Year’s Eve celebrations on the planet accompanied with a New Year feast, champagne, and free flowing Turkmenistan vodka.
We’ll then return to Ashgabat for a farewell dinner to a country oozing in both history and quirkiness.
