Now is your opportunity to explore the breakaway state of South Ossetia and be a part of the Independence Day celebrations. It’s not a secret knowing for a traveller to enter all four post-Soviet breakaway republics is incredibly difficult. YPT have your back! We can obtain your expedited entry permits for the all four of them – including South Ossetia, arguably the most closed of them all!
This is your chance to visit one of the world’s newest unrecognised countries! South Ossetia only gained partial independence from Georgia in 2008. This was recognized by Russia and subsequently by Venezuela, Nicaragua, Nauru and Syria. Heavily fortified by the Russians, the country has its own language, identity, and parliament.
Your journey begins in the heart of Southern Russia, Vladikavkaz, the gateway to the Caucasus. Here, you’ll see all the local sights, from Soviet monuments to harrowing terrorist attack sites. You’ll then cross through the Caucasus Mountains to South Ossetia to explore the capital city – Tskhinval, and take part in their Independence Day celebrations, featuring one of the last Soviet style military parades left in the world. You’ll then have the opportunity to travel to the war-torn city of Leningor, stopping at Soviet monuments, experiencing local culture and learning about ancient and recent history along the way.
This tour has been designed to perfectly fit into our Caucasus Unrecognised Countries Tour, which offers the best value and allows you to visit Abkhazia, North Ossetia and Chechnya.
You must obtain a double-entry tourist visa to Russia to be able to visit South Ossetia. If you are joining us in Abkhazia as well, you’ll need a multiple-entry Russian visa.
Bookings will close July 18th to ensure sufficient time to obtain your South Ossetian permits.
