The Memorial of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea in Dandong reopens

The Memorial of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea Museum or unofficially known as the Korean War Memorial in Dandong will be reopening on the 19th of September, 2020. The museum was closed back in 2013 to undergo major renovations to modernise the museum and the outdoor exhibits.

This is a great news as the Memorial Hall was previously a major highlight for all domestic and foreign tourists visiting the border city of Dandong in Liaoning province, located directly opposite of North Korea (DPRK). The Korean Memorial Hall is the only museum in China reflecting the Chinese involvement in the Korean War and gives a comprehensive view of the events that unfolded. The DPRK have their own Korean War Museum in Pyongyang as well as South Korea in Seoul.

Renovations have been made to the museum complex to improve the 53 meter high Memorial Tower, the inside exhibition halls presenting over 20,000 cultural relics left over from the Korean War, as well as over 150 military equipment displayed outside at the Outdoor Weapons Exhibition Park including Katyusha rocket launchers, MiG-15 jet fighters, Tu-2 light bombers, Soviet T-34 tanks, and a Chinese steam locomotive.

It was reported by local Dandong newsagencies back in 2018 that the renovation project was met with delays for several years by ongoing scandals involving embezzlement of the renovation fund.
