The Pyongyang General Hospital is said to be located in between the political axis of the Party Foundation Monument and Mansudae Grand Monument occupying previously unused land in between the two iconic political monuments.
History
The groundbreaking ceremony and announcement of the project took place on March 17th, 2020 and was attended by Marshal Kim Jong Un as well as other top Worker’s Party of Korea Officials.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, the hospital was given a 200-day deadline for completion in order to be ready for the historic celebrations of the 75th Anniversary of the Worker’s Party of Korea on October 10th, 2020.
The Hospital is the latest of an ongoing expansion of healthcare services around the capital city since 2012. In 2012 a breast cancer center was added onto the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital, 2013 saw the completion and opening of both the Okryu Children’s Hospital and Ryugyong Dental Hospital, and in 2016 the Ryugyong General Ophthalmic Hospital was opened for patients
Visiting Pyongyang General Hospital
While the country is currently closed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the hospital remains unfinished, visiting is impossible.
We hope that in the future, however, we will be able to arrange visits to the hospital for tourists looking to see first hand what the most modern and advanced hospital looks like in the DPRK.
At the moment, foreigners in Pyongyang who need medical treatment can recieve it at the Pyongyang Friendship Hospital.
